Listen to Trayvon Martin's screams on 911 tape

Updated on March 22, 2012

No Justice, no peace

Trayvon Martin screamed for his life before he was shot.

This tape is haunting

There are some things that you just should not put into your mind and the tape of someone screaming during the Trayvon Martin incident is one of those things for me. I cannot get it out of my mind. Listen to the tape here. Zimmerman has said that it is he screaming on the tape but listen carefully and at .42 seconds you hear a gunshot and the screaming stops. If Zimmerman were screaming for help, wouldn’t he have continued even after the gunshot?

If you listen carefully, this person is screaming for their life. They scream help several times and then they wail and then silence. Trayvon Martin’s mother has said that that is the voice of her son. His father has said that it is Trayvon screaming for his life. This is the tape that caused his mother to run from the room when she heard it.

Zimmerman told other lies. He said that Trayvon attacked him from behind, but another phone call—Trayvon was on the phone with his girlfriend—completely contradicts that claim. The girlfriend says that Trayvon knew he was being followed and eventually started to run, but Zimmerman caught up with him. They had a confrontation, she says, and then the phone went dead.

My anger continues to grow over this incident because I cannot get the tape out of my head and because George Zimmerman has not been arrested. I never want to forget Trayvon's fear and deafening silence after the gunshot.

Trayvon was close to his home when he was killed, but the police never canvassed the area to find out if anyone was missing a kid. He lay in the morgue for three days before his identity was discovered. The police had his cell phone, but never checked it. Had they, they would have seen that he was on the phone at the time he was murdered. They would have been able to call his parents.

George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin in cold blood. That’s Trayvon’s voice on that recording screaming for help. He wails when he realizes Zimmerman has a gun. Bang! Then the screams stop. Arrest George Zimmerman and give Trayvon’s family justice.
